the curator of the groove:

Amanda Cardona

I’ve always believed that dance is a conversation. Since I began teaching professionally in 2000, my mission has been to help students discover their own rhythm and reach heights they never thought possible. But for me, The Boogaloo Project is more than just a dance program—it’s a homecoming.

As a Nuyorican, I was drawn to Latin Boogaloo because it perfectly mirrors my own identity: a soulful fusion of Latin roots and American spirit. Inspired by the records my father played and the stories my mother shared, I created this project to preserve a vibrant piece of NYC history that belongs to all of us.

I founded The Boogaloo Project to be more than a performance; I built it to be a Home for the History. I’ve spent years architecting this platform—curating the stories, preserving the sounds, and assembling the resources—to ensure that the soul of the '60s doesn't just stay in the past.

I don't just teach the movement; I curate the experience. From our radio segments to our community archives and the 'Move & Groove' sessions on the floor, this project is a resource for anyone who feels (or wants to feel) the beat. So whether we are grooving in the streets or training in the studio, my goal is to keep this funky, unique culture alive and evolving.

I’m proud to be a part of this revival, building the bridge between the legends who started it and the generations that will keep it alive.
